Senator Susan Collins with former Children's Congress delegates at the Walk to Cure Diabetes
On Sunday, September 18, 2011, before the JDRF Annual Walk to Cure Diabetes, former Maine Children’s Congress delegates Cole Buchanan, Aidan Sweeney, Stephanie Rothweiler, Hannah Ryder, and Grace Jacobs met with Senator Susan Collins for JDRF’s Promise to Remember Me Campaign. Senator Collins was thrilled to see each delegate, giving them all hugs and speaking with them individually about their lives with Diabetes. The delegates were able to update Senator Collins on their continued victories and struggles living with the disease before standing with Senator Collins as she spoke before 1,000 JDRF Walkers.
As founder and co-chair of the Senate Diabetes Caucus, Senator Collins eloquently spoke how she has seen the funding for Diabetes research triple to more than a billion dollars since 1997. She remains committed to continue the battle for research funding and ultimately finding a cure for Diabetes.
