Representative Todd Platts (PA-19) meets with JDRF advocates for a Promise meeting
On September 26, JDRF advocates held a Promise meeting with Representative Todd Platts in his York office. In attendance was Wanda Hartlaub, her husband Curt, their daughter Jenna and Jenna's boyfriend Wyatt Rickrode, as well as Karen Gonzalez and Paul Marchetti. Both Jenna and Wyatt have type 1 diabetes, as do Karen and Paul's daughters. The advocates spoke with Representative Platts about supporting the efforts to ensure guidance for the artificial pancreas is provided by the FDA, and also about continued funding for research. They also expressed concern as to what might happen to their families should the health care legislation be overturned. Representative Platts shared their concerns and seemed supportive. When the families told him about how type 1 diabetes has affected their lives and how important a cure is to all of them, he was very attuned to what they had to say. After about a half hour, the advocates took a photo with Representative Platts and adjourned. Thank you to Representative Platts for a great Promise meeting!
