Advocates Kate, Marlee and Frances met with Representative Brad Miller in his Greensboro, NC office on August 23, 2011. They thanked him for all his support in congress for legislation affecting people with diabetes.
They talked about the fact that there were now many adults with type 1 diabetes. Some have lived with diabetes since childhood thanks to research and new technology, and many were diagnosed as young and older adults. Challenges with health care, insurance coverage, and current treatment were shared, as well as exciting new research and technological advances. The artificial pancreas was a big topic of discussion. Marlee described with enthusiasm the experiences of a colleague who took part in a hospital trial, and emphasized the needed FDA guidance for outpatient trials. Advocates thanked Representative Miller again, and asked for his continued support for strong NIH and FDA funding
