Representative Todd Akin (MO-2) meets with JDRF families for a Promise Campaign meeting
On August 30, JDRF advocates from Missouri's 2nd congressional district met with Representative Todd Akin. Representative Akin was very receptive to everyone who attended the meeting. After telling their stories of how type 1 diabetes has affected their lives and discussing the expense of test strips and supplies, the advocates talked about the artificial pancreas technology for the majority of the meeting. One point that the advocates emphasized is that an artificial pancreas could drastically reduce medical costs once it is commercially available because the risk of developing complications of the disease would be lessened. The advocates then asked Representative Akin to remember them by making a statement on the floor urging FDA to get the artificial pancreas into outpatient studies. Thank you to Representative Akin for a great meeting!
