JDRF advocates met with Representative Tim Johnson in Illinois for a Promise campaign meeting. They thanked the Representative for allowing them to meet during his very limited in-district time and for his continued support. Due to Representative Johnson's personal connection to type 1 diabetes, they spoke briefly about diabetic care and the impact it has on one's life. This led into a conversation about the changes in treatment over the past ten years and progressed into discussing artificial pancreas technology. Representative Johnson asked his legislative aide to make sure his name was on any legislation or letter of support for the artificial pancreas. He also said that he is committed to helping fund type 1 research and that he really does want to help when possible. He asked if the advocates knew of his award, and they indicated that they knew of his award from the Joslin Diabetes Foundation. The advocates stated that they were grateful to have their Representative so familiar with type 1 diabetes. The advocates then finished by asking if he would join the Diabetes Caucus. Representative Johnson indicated that he thought he was a member and would make sure his name was on the list. Before closing the meeting, he spoke with Coleton and Amanda about their diabetic care, their ages of diagnosis, interests and what sports they played. Thank you Representative Johnson for a meeting that went very well!
