On October 31, 2011, the Navarro family met with Representative Judy Chu in her District office in El Monte, CA. The Navarro family shared their story about their daughter Marilyn and her daily life living with T1D. Marilyn shared how she struggles in school with getting proper care and understanding. The Representative was very open to hearing her story about how she has been left behind from school field trips because her mother was not able to take work off to attend with her.
Marilyn’s mom, Marlene, shared her appreciation for the Representative's past support of the Special Diabetes Program and diabetes research. She shared that through diabetes research, her daughter is able to live a “normal” life and that her daughter loves having an insulin pump. The Representative than asked if she could see Marilyn’s pump. Of course, Marilyn was excited to share her pump and talk about how it works. The advocates are extremely grateful for their time with Representative Chu!
