Adam Schiff (Rep-CA-29)

  • JDRF Families meeting with Representative Adam Schiff (CA-29)
On Monday, September 19, 2011, three families had a meeting with Representative Adam Schiff in Pasadena. The advocates spoke with him about their experiences with diabetes and how it has affected their daily lives. The Representative was very easy to talk to, as well as very open to everything the advocates said, especially since he has diabetes in his family himself. They also discussed some main points in diabetes research, and what the advocates were asking him to support. The attendees discussed the Special Diabetes Program that the Representative supported last year, and told him about the artificial pancreas. The artificial pancreas is an insulin pump and a continuous glucose monitor working together. This is really being emphasized right now in diabetes research, and the advocates explained that neither patients nor the government can afford a futher delay from the FDA concerning this product. After all of this, Representative Schiff thanked the attendees and they took a picture. All in attendance felt that they must have made an impact on him, because later his office made a follow up call to JDRF. It was a great and productive experience.
